Ch ch ch ch ch changes
Just to let you know that we are switching over to our new blogging system later today. Therefore we expect a little turbulence during the changes. If you get issues with the feed etc it will be because of the modifications, the feed url however should not change so hopefully this will all just work its way through. ...
We need a new blogging system
Before I forget and whilst catching up with my posts here, I figured I'd ask for some feedback on blogging tools/systems available out there right now. Yes I know it's only been a few months since I changed the Folknology, but that was only ever a stop gap to keep things moving and solve the issues we had with Spam....
People and Wikis
In addition to the speakers at FOWA day 2 I also met up with many people I hadn't spoken to in some time as well as some new folks....
FOWA Day 2
The second day at FOWA brought some interesting speakers, more suitable in my opinion to the many web people present at the event. This day looked much better on paper as far as content and detail were concerned and I was keen to hear some of those speakers, there was also some nice suprises in store later in the day....
Wine and social software
After attending FOWA day 1, I swung across town to Spitalfields and small establishment therein called Bedales. Bedales is not like your average bar or pub, infact it is just like walking into a an old wine merchants, they even have those one of those old ladders on tracks to reach the higher bottles of fine wines they purvey. But no this isn't just a wine merchant, one can choose a bottle or 5 to sup with friends at the provided tables and benches. I will warn you, however, That this quirky establishment does not possess a public toilet, instead one has to pick up a key and go around the corner for quick relief. Don't however let this put you off, the wine choice is excellent and all round its a really social place to gather and chat with a few sherbets as our Dennis would say!...
FOWA day 1
Well it's been a busy but fulfilling week, Tuesday was spent at the first day of The Future of Web Apps conference (FOWA) organised by Carson Systems . This was a great start of a interesting week for me having been nailed in front of my desk for 4 out 5 days over the last month or so, and catching up with friends and colleagues in town this week has been just what I needed....

Making ourselves heard
I love Peter Lacey's 'They can’t hear you' piece. He really nails why enterprise's don't get REST, and why they are so WS-Hairball (love that term) oriented. Quite simply it is because that is what the enterprise vendors are selling to the CTO/CIO's, particularly on the back of their over-hyped SOA marketing themes....

Jostling for places on the number grid
I have been observing, examining and using web based spreadsheets since March. I did so on the back of something we were working on here at Folknology. Exclusive EditGrid conversation with founder - David Lee
During last week whilst working through our first Lab series I had an opportunity to talk to David Lee founder of EditGrid. As part of that conversation David provided me with and Exclusive demo of the new version of EditGrid (Beta16) online via a Desktop sharing service....
Integrating process with web spreadhseets
I have just uploaded the second part to the the first Labs series 'The spreadsheet is dead long live the spreadsheet'. Inside I take things a bit further, aggregating tasks by project from Google's Gcal. This starts making the process much more useful. This project task aggregation is then processed and compiled into individual sheets within a spreadsheet book, ready for the bookkeeper or accountant to process for invoicing. ...
Lab notes goes live
Today I took the executive decision to just hang out some of our lab notes on work we are performing. I am not entirely sure how it will pan out, but I am hoping that you will be joining us in conversation in the labs....
What is the market value of Saas
I got to thinking about how Google might offer subscription based pricing for the software as a service offerings that they are busily beta testing, acquiring and planning, then it suddenly occurred to me that actually it is not gonna be like that at all, that would be far to easy....
Thats wiki sewn up now what about accounting
The Google acquisition of Jotspot is all over my blogoscope, much of which is regurgitation of the FAQs and releases from JotSpot. Zoli however is probably closer to the truth than the others commenting out there....

A new comments strategy
If you have been around Folknology for a while, you will probably remember the issues we had with comments on the old blog. Our comments facility was hit so hard by spammers that we eventually had to remove all comments from the database and facilities for adding them. ...

Everybody wants to own the customer
One of the reasons SaaS/SOA has failed to take hold given it's early roots in 2000 is that it is designed around everyone making specialist components that exist in a all is equal garden or commons....
Happy Birthday to Folknology
Folknology is 1 year old, the anniversary passed just last weekend (October 7th), I can't beleive how quickly the last 12 months have gone. I remember the announcement post on a previous blog vividly....
What goes around comes around
It's funny "what goes around comes around" as they say. The term Web Integrator met it's ultimate demise round about 2001 with the bursting of the internet bubble. At that point being a Web Integrator meant queuing up for your redundancy from your bloated, over paid, under-worked bandwagon....
