Google announces Spreadsheets Data API

Well today Google announced their Spreadsheet API, about time to given EditGrid has had theirs for months : Google SH-API (based on GData). One thing puzzles me following a cursive glance at it, why do they not allow creation of spreadsheets?

From their API docs:

"The Spreadsheets data API does not currently provide a way to create or delete a spreadsheet. For testing purposes, we recommend that you create a spreadsheet manually".

That s a very strange decision, this certainly is not an issue with EditGrid, not quite sure what to make of that. We will however be taking the API for a spin in our labs just as soon as I get a few other things sorted (like Java 1.5 on my laptop for example...).

PS. EditGrid has also released their beta 16 version and added more community functions to there site, take a look.
PPS. Apologies for the lack of posts over the last week or so, I have a long back log of posts (Lots to talk about) that need finishing. I, like others, have a day job running a real business that has very real targets, but Novembers is finished now so I can catch up with Folknology backlog I promise ;).
